How I design content
Identify a user issue
While going through your product, recognize a potential issue regarding content, usability, or flow.
Research
Do research and gather data to understand your audiences’ pain points, wants, and needs.
Establish user base
From your research, establish your target audience and the main issue you are solving.
Create a journey map
Create a map of your user’s journey to identify: the user’s motive when landing on your content, their thought process, the information they need at the time, how much content they can consume, and more.
Establish tone and voice
Create an empathy map to dive deeper in to your audience’s state of mind. This will show what they see, feel, hear, and do at the moment you are showcasing your content. Knowing this is critical in establishing the correct tone of voice to be using when speaking to your audience.
Start writing!
Finally, it’s time to start drafting! Create multiple iterations of your content solution reflecting the correct tone and voice. Make sure to be in the user’s shoes when writing to be able to create content that best suits the audiences’ needs.
Share and iterate
Collaborate! Make sure to draft content with other content designers and also share what you’ve been working on. You can bounce off each other’s ideas to create the perfect solution for your users. It’s important to always hear from different perspectives because the human brain tends to be biased.
Test
Work with your user researcher to figure out if the content is providing the solution needed for the user. Track the performance of your content and make iterations if not meeting product goals. The beauty of content is that it can always be changed for the better!
